On March 14, 2007 one of our firefighters was diagnosed with acute leukemia, firefighter Bill Townsend (#13).  On May 1, 2009 Billy lost his battle against acute leukemia. Over the past couple of years Bill endured many challenges along with his wife Alicia and children, Victoria and Charles. Throughout these times, Billy and his family displayed an amazing amount of strength and courage! During their time at the hospital in Boston, many friendships were made and overwhelming support from the community was shown. 

There is no way to fully describe or detail all that Billy has done for his community, and his family. His passing was a surprise to us all. We would be remiss if we did not say he will be greatly missed, by his Fire Dept. and by his community!

Recently this year firefighter Mike Krug had a friend from Germany visit. Thomas is a volunteer firefighter also. He shared with us pictures and information on fire tactics used in Germany. Although the site is in German, but you can post your comments in English. Thomas left with Mike a firefighter helmet used by the Volunteer German Department. It glows in the dark. Calais Fire Department gets a new fire truck. Through a grant the fire department obtained a new 2005 E-One Typhoon.

THE CALAIS FIRE DEPARTMENT HAS BEEN SERVING THE CITIZENS OF CALAIS SINCE 1828 WITH THE START OF THE “ CALAIS FIRE CLUB”. THE MEMBERSHIP WAS AT AN ALL-TIME HIGH OF 110 MEMBERS IN 1863 .CURRENTLY IN 2006 WE HAVE A MEMBERSHIP TOTAL OF 38 INCLUDING FULL TIME AND CALL / VOLUNTEER FIRE FIGHTERS. WE HAVE A CENTRAL STATION ON NORTH STREET AND AN OUTLINING STATION THE RED BEACH SECTION OF CALAIS.
